Littlehead

Harewood Arms - Back to Back Birthday Parties

After a small winter break from the gig stream, Littlehead was back at it this weekend for a 2-nighter at the Harewood Arms.  It was Chuck's birthday on friday and Maddie's birthday on the saturday.  Friday night especially felt a knockout good time.  Sometimes it got so rockin' loud on the dance floor that all I could hear was the 'woo-hoo's and screams.  Felt like we should've broke into a hard rock rendition of "Hands up, baby hands up.. gimme your heart, gimme, gimme..." well, you know the rest... sent shivers down my spine and put a great big stupid smile on my own face!!.. and it was so great to just get back at it!  Happy Birthday Chuck.. and Maddie, gotta say, you look fabulous at 50!  Next show looks to be at the Wellington.  CAN'T WAIT!  See ya there!

2011 – Really??!!

Henry here… I couldn't let this year slip by without 1 more blllooooggg.  So hey, has anyone noticed how fast this year came and went?  Well, for me it did.  Seemed to zip by like a Slash lick coming from Richie's Gibson.  And what’s with all these latest gadgets coming out that do ‘EVERYTHING’!? Shees!! A few days ago I was walking across the Bay Street Bridge in Victoria ‘checking my email’.. say what?  Techno-gadgets.. they just always ‘gotta change’.  Like back in the spring when I started jamming with Littlehead I had no idea things would ‘change’ into what it did.  I remember back around early summer when we started getting this notion we actually had something.  There was talk in the Littlehead camp of changing the band name.  There were a few names I remember that came up.. one was ‘Isle 9’ … er.. ‘Aisle 9’ another was ‘Wrecking Crew’.  There were actually a few other ‘not too bad’ sounding names being kicked around.  But none of them stuck.  Me personally, I was all for doing a name change. After all, who could blame me for feeling a little ‘overwhelmed’ about my part in the band…  apparently I had some huge shoes to fill and by keeping the name ‘Littlehead’.. well…  I was having mental reruns of folks making.. well.. comparisons. But sometimes ya just gotto go with it, and do it the way ‘you’ do it… and glad we did.  Glad to say that Littlehead is alive and rockin’… same great band, just a little different vocal flavour.  And hey, before I was actually ‘in’ the band I was a fan myself.  I was in another local act sort of ‘watching from afar’.  Who would have foreseen this new combination of band mates? And in the end, I gotta say, I feel right at home, and happy to be there.  Also, just want to shout out to all of you that egged me on…. those positive things you said to me, even in in passing, were real confidence builders.  So… Thanks!  You might have noticed that our next year’s calendar is pretty full already.  Wouldn’t be looking like that if you all weren’t out there supporting us… YOU ROCK!  So here’s to 2012… BRING IT ON!

ROCKIN' THE WELL!

From song 1... right through to the encore in the wee hours, this place was PACKED!  .. AND LOUD!  I can always tell it's a great gig when the dance floor is so packed that we have to keep an eye on our mic stands that they don't get knocked.. and yup.. there were a few of those moments.  This was the night when Shawn got to try out his new Pearl drums... candy apple red with a big honkin' chrome rack horse-shoe around it to hold everything down.  Myself, I was trying out a Rickenbacker 620, fire red guitar.. sounded awesome.. might just have to get it!  Got to meet all Richie's hockey buds (and Shawn's too).  Wayne did a great job, as always, belting out a ton of songs... the one that stands out for me is 'When Something Stands for Nothing'... our cover of the old Headstones classic.. I switch to bass on this tune and Wayne sings and wails on the harp.  If you have'nt heard him pull that off yet, ya gotta... soooon!  Next Littlehead gig will be at Millar's Pub down by Muddy Water's in Nanaimo... Hope to see ya there!

Live at The Harewood Arms Saturday October 15th

So here it was Saturday night at The Harewood Arms, and the boys were ready to rock! But had to postpone so they could let the Canucks win a hockey game..(GO NUCKS!) So the first set got kind of melded into the second set, and part of the second got stuffed into the third, etc.

Ear Food

So it kind of got off to a slow start, due to all the people sitting in utter shock after the canucks won, but as the night wore on and the beer went down, the dance floor began to fill. There were of course the usual equipment malfunctions. Henry blew a string halway through a tune, Shawn had a microphone that needed a good shot of Viagra...

But when in need of a roady, you can always depend on "Drummer from a Nudder Mudder"

Richie was practicing his" This is the face I will be using to answer the door at Halloween" routine.

It wasn't scaring any of the dancers away as the boys kept the  floor full past "last call" and  through three oncores!

So thats about it. Everyone had a great time. No dancers were harmed in the making of this spectacle. I managed to take a half billion pictures. Only half of them were of the servers ear as she blew past the camera trying like hell to keep everybody's whistles wet.
Once I get the time to sort them I'll get the good ones up in the photo gallery.

Look for Littlehead on November 19th at the Wellington! See you there!
Cheers!
